In Health Coach Institute’s Become a Health Coach (BHC) program, we teach a unique coaching methodology you won’t find anywhere else. It’s called the Habit Change Coaching Method.

Did you know that habits—whether “good” or “bad”—are the number one determinants of your quality of your life? In fact, about 40 percent of your daily actions are driven by habit.

That’s why at HCI, we say, “When you change a habit, you change a life.”

You probably have a pretty good idea of the positive changes you’d like to make to improve your health and happiness, right? But the problem is, oftentimes we know what we need to do…and yet we still don’t DO it.

For instance, maybe you want to workout three times a week so you can get in shape and feel more energetic. You buy a gym membership as a way to motivate yourself to follow through on your goal. You go a few times and you feel good when you go…but then you suddenly stop going.

Or maybe you’re unhappy in your career and you know you’re craving a change. But instead of spending time job searching, updating your resume, and reaching out to your network, you binge watch Netflix.

What is it that makes us default to our bad habits—even when our desire to change is strong?

This is exactly what we dive into and demystify in our Become a Health Coach (BHC) professional training. In this six-month dual Health and Life Coach training, we explore the neuroscience behind why we resist change, and we teach a proven framework (our Habit Change Coaching Method) for creating lasting positive lifestyle changes.

Functional MRI research shows us that habits are literally wired into our brains. So if you’ve been doing something one way for a long time and decide you want to change (even if you have the best intentions), it can be really hard to change your habits…because your brain isn’t yet wired for the new behavior. This is precisely why you may encounter resistance within yourself when you try to incorporate new habits into your life.
